All About Ms. Jeanine

Hello!!! How nice of you to stop by! Here is a little more information about me - Ms. Jeanine!

I was born and raised right here in our lovely city of San Diego! I grew up near the beach and graduated from Point Loma High School. I attended the University of California, San Diego where I earned my B.S. degree in Biology. After college my desire to travel took me abroad to teach English in Thailand for a few months. While teaching abroad, I realized my life-long love for working with children, and when I returned home, I decided to become a teacher!

I enrolled in San Diego State University's Teacher Education program in 2008. While I was earning my credential, I also worked as a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center and as a Mad Science Instructor all around San Diego, which was a lot of fun! In 2009 I completed my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and began substitute teaching for San Diego Unified School District for a number of years, including a long-term position as a preschool teacher. It was there, at Dewey Early Childhood Center where I fell in love with teaching the youngest students, and the natural curiosity, kindness, and wonder that these young individuals possessed. But I was still searching for a school to call my own...

As soon as I stepped foot inside High Tech Elementary Chula Vista in January 2013, I knew this was were I was meant to be! There is a special feeling you get when you enter HTeCV. In all my teaching experience up to that point, I had never felt or seen such a positive learning environment quite like ours - for both the students AND the staff! The HTeCV community has created the most wonderful atmosphere of collaboration, respect, and meaningful learning, and its foundation is based on the hard work and support of our students and their families! It truly is an amazing place to work and learn, and it inspires me every day!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am still a HUGE science enthusiast and love to incorporate it as much as possible into my teaching - especially topics involving ocean life, environmental stewardship, and biological sciences. As I mentioned, I grew up near the ocean and never seem to drift too far from it, both in body and in mind. I also have a great passion for music, love attending live concerts, drinking coffee, and being in nature!

Our family grew by one more this year! My partner Jon and I welcomed our baby boy Rocky in March 2018. He has two older brothers who also attend our school - Eric is in 6th grade and DJ is in 3rd.

When I am not at school you may catch me out with my family exploring our great city. I love living in San Diego with all its different cultures, things to do and amazing weather. I try to get outdoors to take advantage of that fact as much as possible - and I encourage my students and their families to do the same! We love going on hikes through Mission Trails or Torrey Pines, doing some people watching at local street fairs, soaking up some sun at the beach or bay, or hanging out with our two dogs Ripley the Maltese and Rambo the Lab at a park!

What do you love about living in San Diego? Thanks for stopping by!
